Barthold and Ann Margaretha (Brunner) Struve had several children including not only the three Loeck sisters Nth grandfather Georg Adam but also Anna Margaretha Struve (1624 – 1679) who in 1645 married Christian Wasewitz (1609 – 1668). On the occasion a wedding book was published: Hochzeit-Schrifft Als Der Wol Ehrwürdige vnd Hoch wolgelarte Herr Christian Wasewitz Diaconus im Dom zu Magdeburg … Vnd … Anna Margareta Deß … Herrn Bartholdt Struven … [not yet digitized] … which tells us that their wedding took place on the 10th day of the Fallow Month (December).
Christian Wasewitz was a theologian; who studied in Wittenberg (1623 imm., Non iuravit) and Jena (1636 imm.). He was the Magister (1638-1657) and second cathedral preacher and from 1657 to 1668 he was the first cathedral preacher at Magdeburg. As a preacher, his name appears on many wedding and funeral books which we do not list here.
In 1614 Christian Wasewitz was appointed to the University of Leipzig and later became the primary pastor at the arch-episcopal cathedral church of Magdeburg. One writer states that: “He had the glory of being a theologian, philologist and poet of rare gifts”. He also diligently championed the protestant argument against “the papists”. He married Georg Adam Struve’s sister, but their two children died before them. Finally, while seriously ill, he received medicines, which ruined his “fine nature to such an extent that he died” in January 1668.
Below Christian Wassewitz’s autograph (lower right corner):
They had at least one son, Christian Barthold Wasewitz (1649 – 1665), whose death at age of 16 was marked by the publication of several funeral oration books (below).

Two other funeral books for Christian Barthold Wasewitz were published: Glückseligkeit und Seligkeit Der Frühzeitig sterbenden Jugend : gezeiget Bey ansehnlicher Leichbestattung Herrn Christian Bartold Wasewitzens Eines lieben Jünglings und Eintzigen Sohns Des … Christian Wasewitzens … [left] and Lacrymae, Quibus Obitumpraematurum, beatum tamen, optumae quondam indolis & spei Iuvenis eximii …. [right]
It is interesting that Lacrymae, Quibus Obitumpraematurum, (above right) contains contributions made by members of the Struve family, some of whom do not appear anywhere else such as Joachim Friedrich Struve.
Examples of Wasewitz’s works are shown below including: Leichpredigt Uber die schöne Trostreiche Wort Pauli II. Tim. IV. v. 7. Ich habe einen guten Kampf gekämpffet/ [et]c. : Bey … Sepultur Des … Herren Reinhardi Bakii …
After the death of Christian Wasewitz, various manuscripts of his unpublished works were collected by Johann Julius Struve, who succeeded him as Pastor of Saint Johannes in Magdeburg, including a rather “imperfect” work on clerical celibacy, and a number of volumes of epigrams, shown below:.
When his father in law Barthold Struve died, Christian Wasewitz made a number of verse contributions to the funeral book:
Below, some verses penned by Christian Wassewitz on the occasion of the funeral of. M. Thobiae Cunonis senior pastor and school inspector.
When Anna Margarethe (Struve) Wasewitz died a funeral book was published under the title – Heylsame Creutz und Gnadenquelle : Bey Ansehnlicher Leich-Bestattung Der Edlen und Viel Ehren- und Tugendreichen Frauen Anna Margarethen Struvinn …
Christian Wasewitz had an uncle, Andreas, who on 8 October 1615, married Beate Hilliger – born in 1589 at Freiberg, baptized on 13 September 1589 at Freiberg and deceased 29 April 1632 at Wurzen, aged 43 years old. She was the daughter of the Three Loeck Sisters Nth great uncle Wolfgang Hilliger 1545-1614 and Maria Schönlebe 1552-1604.
When Beate died a funeral sermon book was published: Die Seligkeit Christen bereit Ein Christlicher Sermon von der Seligkeit worinnen solche zu förderst in diesem/ wie auch jenem Leben beruhe … from which we learn that Beate died (“fell asleep”) April 29th and was buried on 1st May.
